National Grid last week provided a major boost for a wind farm offshore Rhode Island by agreeing to buy power from the eight-turbine demonstration facility planned by Deepwater Wind and strongly backed by state officials.rnThe power purchase agreement (PPA) for the 28 megawatt project near Block Island was announced Wednesday by Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri (R) and may help clear the way for a much larger 385 MW wind farm that Deepwater also plans to build off the state's coast.
