GAO: FERC in the dark on compliance with voluntary smart grid cyber standards

Despite the known vulnerability of some advanced meters and other smart grid technology to hackers, the Federal En­ergy Regulatory Commission is not moni­toring industry compliance with volun­tary cybersecurity standards set for grid modernization and thus does not know whether those measures are sufficiently protective, the Government Accountabil­ity Office told Congress Wednesday.
