National Grid, NSTAR pull out of Cape Wind offshore wind project

In what could be a fatal blow to the Cape Wind offshore wind project in Nantucket Sound, Mass., National Grid and Northeast Utilities unit NSTAR Tuesday cancelled their power purchase agreements rep­resenting a total of 77.5 percent of the project’s output, maintaining that the de­velopers had failed to meet critical mile­stones specified in their contracts by the December 31 deadline.
