Government abandons its zero-carbon ICT strategy

Two environmental commitments are part of 30 actions in the government's new information and communication technology (ICT) strategy. Reducing the cost of central government data centres by 35% over the next five years is one action that will also reduce the carbon footprint of government ICT, as it implies big reductions in energy use. Publication of a Greening Government ICT Strategy within the next six months is the other pledge in the strategy, published in March. This move will in effect scrap the previous administration's 2008 green government ICT plan.
