Government tries to fire up heating market

The government is to extend renewable heat subsidies to households, but it admits the subsidies will not promote installation of ground-source heat pumps or solar thermal. Households will finally be able to claim subsidies for installing renewable heat equipment from next summer. But the energy and climate department (DECC) admits the proposed subsidies will only be sufficient to spur a few hundred thou sand homes to do so.
