Use of £3bn of UK public funds to set up the Green Investment Bank (GIB) for environmentally friendly projects is acceptable under its state aid rules, the European Commission confirmed on 17 October. The decision is a major step forward. It means the GIB, which already operates under the name UK Green Investments within the business department (BIS), can now move to support higher-risk projects.
