Two UK biofuel standards given the green light

Biofuels produced under the Red Tractor and Scottish Quality Farm Assured standards can count towards national targets, says the European Commission. Crops grown under the two UK schemes meet biofuel sustainability criteria in the Renewable Energy Directive. Under the directive, member states must ensure 10% of transport fuel comes from renewable sources by 2020. But biofuel only counts towards this target if it meets sustainability criteria on land-use change and greenhouse gas savings compared with the fuel it replaces.
