Record EU loan to boost UK grid upgrades

National Grid is to receive a £1.5bn long-term loan - the largest ever granted by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The loan, announced on 7 November, will enable urgently needed investment across the UK's grid as it seeks to upgrade ageing assets and make new connections to renewable energy sources. It will also help develop new intercon-nectors to continental Europe, boosting energy security and resilience. The loan will support capital investment by National Grid for reinforcing infrastructure between the Wirral and renewable sources in Scotland, and the London Power Tunnels.
