One project where partnership funding has been successful is the flood defence scheme in Sandwich, Kent. Ian Nunn, Environment Agency (EA) operations manager, outlines the scheme's development. It began when a tidal area from Pegwell Bay to Kingsdown was identified as part of the local flood and erosion strategy in 2007. The EA and the lead local flood authority, Kent County Council, looked at whether they wanted to hold the existing line on flood defence, to advance it or retreat - and decided they would hold.
