Algal blooms spell doom for wildlife… and housebuilding

Just over two years ago, advice from wildlife regulator Natural England plunged thedevelopment sector on part of England’s south coast into crisis. The advice, whichfollowed a landmark Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruling now knownas the ‘Dutch N case’, meant local authorities in the Solent area were unable to grantpermission for schemes unless they could demonstrate nutrient neutrality.
