Waste charity launches guide to boost reuse at HWRCs

A practical guide to help local authorities boost reuse at household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) has been published by waste charity WRAP. The 50-page guidance document was developed by consultancy Resource Futures on behalf of WRAP and DEFRA. It focuses on helping council waste departments "persuade procurement colleagues" that including reuse in new contracts is worthwhile. Resource Futures said challenges such as budget risks and operational issues in reuse procurement had made this challenging. DEFRA also said it was aware that local authorities "often struggled" to include reuse in procurement contracts.
