Unilever sets out 'carbon positive' plans

Unilever has announced it will become carbon positive by 2030, as it looks to ramp up its environmental ambitions and ditch coal within five years. The consumer goods company's plans include eliminating fossil fuels from its operations and directly supporting the generation of more renewable energy than it consumes, it said in November. Unilever also committed to sourcing 100% of its total energy use from renewable sources by 2030. In addition, all of the electricity it buys from the grid will come from renewable sources by 2020 and it has pledged to eliminate coal from its energy mix by 2020. It plans to make the surplus renewable energy it produces available to the markets and communities in which it operates.
