EU agrees to restrict toxic flame retardant deca-BDE

The EU has approved restrictions on the toxic brominated flame retardant deca-BDE, although campaigners have questioned the decision to extend exemption periods for certain industries. The regulation, published in the EU's Official Journal on 9 February, restricts the manufacture, sale and use of the chemical by adding it to annex XVII of the REACH Regulation.1
