Go to Dreamland, forget the mosques

Twenty years ago Anwar Sadat challenged his people to conquer the desert. Model towns were built, but few Egyptians moved out to those tenements in the sand. Now, however, all this has changed: Egyptians are stampeding out of the Nile valley, leapfrogging Sadat's ghost towns, flocking instead to resorts with names like Santa Monica, Virginia Beach and Dreamland.
