Inclusive Design

We would like to begin by welcoming you to this special issue of The Design Journal, which focuses on inclusive design. When the call was announced in Spring 2012, we were genuinely surprised by the response it generated. In total 50 outlines were received from researchers spanning the globe, including North and South America, Europe, Japan and Australia. We feel this is testament to the importance that designing inclusively has for meeting key global challenges - namely addressing the needs of the ageing population and doing so within a sustainable framework that includes consideration of climate change.
