The Three Gorges

For the last decade and a half, the Three Gorges or Sanxia Dam has been one of the most captivating stories in the development of China. It now appears that the construction of the dam will be completed in 2008. The debates about constructing it and about the final reservoir water level are over. Those who opposed the project now have to move on while they watch to see if their worst nightmares come true. Those who sincerely said the dams will improve energy supply, flood control, navigation and water supply will now get to see if their judgment was sound. For some, a lot of money has been made and for yet others, their lives and livelihoods have been disrupted forever.
