The biggest drawbacks with the water-bath systems traditionally used to test filled aerosol cans are high material and energy costs. As the name suggests, water-baths use lots of clean water - they must be regularly drained and refilled when faulty cans are detected - and are based on the visual detection of leaking bubbles, making them incompatible with high-speed filling lines. However, an alternative for aerosol fillers is at hand, with a number of non-water bath systems now on the market that offer high-speed, in-line testing.
