Ball to consolidate its general line capacity

Ball Corporation is planning to close its canmaking plant at Elgin, Illinois, and supply its customers in the food and aerosol packaging industry from its other factories in North America, says operations chief Mike Feldser.The plant, one of 15 operations in Ball's Metal Food & Household Products Packaging Division, will stop making cans in December 2013.Feldser said: "Closing Elgin reduces capacity and, coupled with other changes within our manufacturing system, will enable us to maximize value in our existing business by supplying customers from a consolidated asset base and redistributing some manufacturing operations within our system."
