The growing market for canned infant-formula in China has provided the impetus for investment at Australasia's Jamestrong Packaging, which last month opened its sixth canmaking plant. Increasingly stringent hygiene demands from the baby-food brands have revolutionised the manufacturing processes of canmakers like Jamestrong, from label design and metal decorating through to fabrication, all of which require ultra-clean operations. It means that the two canmaking lines at the new Wiri plant in Auckland run in a state-of-the-art clean room with high-tech vision systems.
