An Overview of Recent Developments in Copyright Law

Technology companies now account for a significant portion of the U.S. economy, with the ten biggest companies accounting for over $1 trillion in aggregate revenue. As detailed above, some lawmakers and courts believe these companies should play a more active role in policing copyright infringement on the Internet; however, not all courts share this sentiment. As these companies continue to grow, the law still strives to find the right balance to incentivize the creation of new works of authorship and protect rights holders without stifling the innovation of new technologies.
