Lawyers have been concerned for years about their liability in connection with rendering legal opinions, both to clients and to non-clients. There are lots of good reports and treatises covering the giving of legal opinions. However, not much has been written about lawyer responsibilities in receiving legal opinions on behalf of a client opinion recipient. Should lawyers be concerned about liability to their clients in connection with receiving on behalf of such clients legal opinions from other counsel? The answer is a resounding yes.
