The Abbey Green design competition, run by the AJ in association with Design for London and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, challenges architects to design a regeneration plan for Abbey Green - a 6.5ha green space in Barking town centre.rnThe brief is to make Abbey Green a vibrant communal space for Barking, reconnecting it with the town and enabling connections between the town centre and the River Roding. The site is steeped in history and contains a Norman church and abbey ruins dating back to the seventh century. It is a conservation area and, in part, a scheduled ancient monument, but it is surrounded by roads and is under-used by the community.
