I was deeply involved in commenting on the desperate state of our football stadia before the Hillsborough disaster, and afterwards set up two RIBA seminars to highlight the opportunities for designing new stadia. A big change as a result of Hillsborough was all-seated stadia.There is a lot of pressure from fans to return to standing terraces. Hillsborough was caused by lack of proper crowd control, not by fans standing. The significance to architects is that Premiership grounds can increase their capacity by switching areas back to standing without having to redevelop.
