Sustainability in practice

At Marks & Spencer, sustainability is at the heart of the business, and our property development programme is no exception. Through Plan A, the eco and ethical programme initiated in 2006, we have completely rethought the way we source, design, construct and operate our buildings. The result is a holistic approach that goes beyond carbon, water and waste to include health, well-being and material sourcing. Since Plan A's inception, we have achieved £70 million in operational savings through greater energy efficiency and reduced water usage.
