ACME has seen off an international shortlist of architects to win the contest to design a new pedestrian and cycling bridge in Berlin. In collaboration with structural engineer AKT Ⅱ, ACME was selected for the job from a 13-strong shortlist which included two other British teams, headed up by Wilkinson Eyre and Amanda Levete's practice AL_A respectively. The minimalist bridge (below) will span the Berlin-Spandau Ship Canal, where the new Europacity urban quarter is under construction. The practice also won third prize for its proposals for a second bridge, located south of the contest-winning scheme.
