Two types of business competed for consideration in this category. On the one hand were the already highly internationalised businesses of HOK and Populous and, on the other, UK-based businesses including Purcell, ADP and Chetwood Architects, which are expanding abroad, often from a much smaller base. Populous, however, had the distinction of completing two world-class facilities in the course of a single year.
