摘要

Stemming from a wider reflection on addressing sustainability through a consistent spatial planning and architectural design strategy, the building is an educational centre teaching Environmental Sustainability within Greater Manchester, focusing on the Manchester ship canal as a 'smart' ecological corridor. The brief follows in-depth analysis at regional scale to identify the needs and requirements to design in a fragile and delicate natural context. This reflection has been nurtured by discussion with local stakeholders and international experts, all with a broad experience on waterways and sustainable infrastructures.
