Scott Brownrigg and The Learning Crowd for their book Urban Schools - Designing for High Density

The co-authors of a new guide to designing schools in inner-city urban settings have won the AJ100 Collaboration of the Year award. Scott Brownrigg's director of practice, Helen Taylor, and Sharon Wright, senior associate at education experts The Learning Crowd, have created an invaluable resource for educators, designers and policymakers in their publication Urban Schools: Designing for High Density. The authors, who worked with contributors from around the world on the publication, said their intent from the outset had been to 'share the successes and help the education design world learn the key lessons to deliver new solutions that meet the needs of children now and in the future'. The book was chosen ahead of two other contenders: the Arup-led developer, contractor and design team behind the revamp of a 1990s commercial block in Triton Square, Euston, which has produced 48 per cent fewer carbon emissions than if they'd built a new office on the site; and a collaboration between HTA Design with Pollard Thomas Edwards, Proctor & Matthews and PRP, which worked together on The Distinctively Local report looking into new suburban and rural housing.The winning project featured contributions from, among others, Bogle Architects, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios,Ty Goddard of Edtech UK, and Catherine Burke, professor of history of education at the University of Cambridge.
