Danish big-hitter 3XN has revealed plans for its first project in London, a 36-storey tower scheme in Broadgate. Working in partnership with its innovation arm, GXN, the firm is proposing to replace two 1980s buildings by Peter Foggo on the estate with a new high-rise office scheme. The Copenhagen-headquartered firm, whose last major involvement in a UK project was on the controversial Museum of Liverpool a decade ago, was appointed by British Land to build the skyscraper scheme at Nos 2 and 3 Finsbury Avenue Square following atop-secret design contest last year. An earlier 32-storey 62,000m~2 office skyscraper for the site, designed by Arup Associates, was given the green light four years ago but never taken forward. The design world has paid tribute to the 'revolutionary' and 'visionary' Terence Conran, who died last weekend, aged 88. During a near-70-year career, the prolific furniture designer, retailer and restaurateur founded Habitat, the Design Museum, and architecture practice Conran and Partners. Designer Thomas Heatherwick described Conran as 'one of a small handful of amazing people who dragged Great Britain out of the post-Second World War gloom and modernised the country by revolutionising how we think about our homes'.
