A united island

The James Simon Galerie serves as the new entrance building for Berlin's Museum Island, completing the ensemble of five museum buildings. Housing all central service functions, it offers information and guides visitors to the separate buildings. A grand outdoor staircase provides the main access leading to a large reception hall. From the plinth situated on the water, rises an elevated colonnade creating a public terrace. At ground-floor, Stuler's existing colonnade is continued, forming a small courtyard. The plinth contains a temporary exhibition space, cloakroom and auditorium.
