A personal review of the book reviews

The present note comprises a brief overview of the 30 book reviews completed by the author during the first three years since the first publication of the Anthropocene Review. This is followed by a personal reaction to some recent books in which the Anthropocene (or Capitalocene) is framed in Marxist terms. Not only does this framing seem to limit the value of the analyses once purely historical considerations are dealt with, the adoption of a particular theoretical approach appears to preclude the type of synergy between social and Earth System science so necessary at the present time.
