摘要

Exports of Cotton Textiles including yarn, fabric and made-ups during 2001-2002, according to DGCI&S, was US$ 3176 million equivalent to Rs. 151295 million which is roughly 30% of the total textile and clothing exports from India. Cotton textiles, therefore, continues to be a key driver in India's exports efforts. A further analysis shows that Asia, Europe and America (primarily USA and Canada) dominate the global market with a share of around 85% of the world trade in textiles and clothing. Any major increase in exports will depend on how Indian cotton textiles producers are able to consolidate their presence in these areas of the globe in the coming years. An analysis of the direction of India's exports over the years shows that the markets listed below are of major consequence to Indian cotton textile industry and a thrust towards greater market access could result in accelerated export growth.
