摘要

Significant developments have occurred in the field of manufacture of high quality non-woven textiles based on needle punching technology. Needle punched non-woven materials are now extensively used as air filtration medium, geotextiles, agro textiles, floor converings, underfelts, thermal insulation medium, blankets etc. However, in all these applications, synthetic fibres are the main choice limiting the use of jute to some heavier needle-felts used in automobile industry as filling and insulation media. Research work has been initiated long back to develop needle-punched nonwoven based diversified jute products, blending synthetic fibre with jute in various proportions. One such area of diversifications is the use of jute for various thermal insulation purposes because jute itself has a good thermal insulation property. There are some reported works, where 100% jute and 100% synthetic needle punched nonwovens were studied for their thermal insulation behavior.
