In Present work, chitosan was applied on woven Tencel fabric with two attributes. The idea of the experiment is to apply the chitosan to get the antibacterial property at a minimum cost of manufacturing without affecting its functional properties. A woven fabric was produced with the weft yarn (chitosan coated) interlaced with uncoated warp yarn (attribute 1) and compare with fabric produced by interlacing warp and weft both coated with chitosan solution (attribute 2). Chitosan solution was prepared by dissolving chitosan power into glacial acetic acid at 2.5, 5 and 7.5 (%W/V) of concentrations. The solution was applied by the pad-dry-cure method. Prepared woven fabrics were tested for transfer properties like air permeability, water permeability. The antimicrobial activity of chitosan-coated specimens was evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus NCIM 2079, Bacillus subtilis NCIM 2063as Gram-positive, Escherichia coli NCIM 2065, Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCIM 2200as Gram-negative bacteria using agar diffusion method (SN 195920). The conformation of chitosan on fibre was characterized by ATR-IR. A significant effect of the experimental results calculated using statistic v.6. The Attibute 1 results in a same antimicrobial zone of inhibition compared with attribute 2. This leads to cost-effective application technique for wound care bandage.
