Without chemistry there couldn't be a textile industry, and yet 'chemicals' of all kinds are often portrayed as something a caring industry should try to do without. It's a dilemma that raises difficult questions for manufacturers at all levels of the supply chain. Sustainability has become the industry's mantra, a trend driven by increased consumer awareness of the environmental crimes of which textile production has often been guilty.
