Bangladesh eyes $20bn garment exports for 2013

Bangladesh, the world's second largest garment exporter, is hoping for a new wave of business in 2013, despite turbulent economic times in parts of the world, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGMEA). The WTO declared it the second largest RMG (readymade garment) exporter after China in 2010-11 when its exports grew 43.36% year-on-year to $15.66bn in spite of the global recession in 2007-2008. Bangladesh retained its position in the financial year 2011-12 by exporting garments worth $19.09bn. And the outlook for the current financial year is set to exceed $20bn.
