Desso, manufacturer of carpets, carpet tiles and sports pitches, is launching a newwebsite entitled the Great Indoors, to raise awareness about the issues affecting health and wellbeing in the built environment. Air pollution reportedly caused seven million deaths in 2012 and is a contributor to cardiovascular and respiratory disease, as well as some cancers, making it a risk to wellbeing. Desso said it believes flooring design should focus on products that contribute to productive and healthy lives. Typical added functionalities in carpets reduce sound or improve lighting efficiency. The company's AirMaster, however, is a carpet designed to reduce the amount of fine dust in indoor air.
