Strong year for Swiss machinery manufacturers

Despite on-going difficulties associated with having a strong currency, Switzerland's textile machinery manufacturers recorded a strong year in 2013. Recent years have seen the industry achieving export volumes worth around €1bn and the export volume was up nearly 15% in 2013 compared with the previous year. The most important markets for Swiss textile machinery exporters are Turkey, China, India, Germany and Italy. Depending on the sector, growing markets are cited as Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Brazil. The granting of duty free access to EU markets for textile and apparel companies in Pakistan has also raised hopes among some manufacturers that business could pick up there.
