Neumag/Barmag―The manmade fiber industry in Turkey

Towards the end of last year, the trade press repeatedly reported that exports of German textile machines to Turkey rose considerably in 2002. Exports to Turkey in the second half of the year ranked ― with Euro 172 million ― second (after the People's Republic of China with Euro 233 million). Once again, the largest export segment was spinning machines (including manmade fiber production and texturing). This news is quite understandable: for both Barmag, with its spinning and texturing machines, and for Neumag, with its BCF machines for the carpet industry, Turkey is currently Europe's most important market. In Turkey, both companies enjoy an excellent reputation and are ― without a shadow of a doubt ― market leaders with their products in the country. To this end, Barmag alone has 90-95% of the POY production in Turkey and Neumag's BCF production covers in excess of 70% of the market.
