India Can Achieve US$ 50 Billion Textile Exports by 2010 Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme must be extended till 2011-2012 Massive Export Potential for Home Textiles and Technical Textiles

With a view to ensuring that the on-going capital investments should proceed unhindered in the textile industry, the Indian Government is likely to extend the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme till the end of the Eleventh Five Year Plan period, i.e. till 2011-2012. India's textile industry is making large-scale investments with a view to meeting the targeted production of US$ 85 billion by 2010 with exports of US$ 50 billion. There is enormous growth potential in increasing India's textile exports from the US$ 17 billion achieved in 2005-2006 to US$ 50 billion by 2009-2010. Exports for the financial year 2006-2007 are estimated at US$ 19 billion.
