How a mold line works

Proferro currently has two mold lines (Taccone + HWS) in which molds are made by pressing sand against the model plate in a mold box. To cast a part you first need a mold box. The mold box consists of two parts, namely a top part and a bottom part. In each of these two parts sand is pressed against the model. The resulting mold corresponds to one half of the casting that will eventually be made. The two halves fit perfectly together, so we obtain a block of sand with a hollow that has exactly the shape of the casting to be produced. If the casting itself has to be hollow, then the mold box also includes a core.
