'Beyond Bloomsbury: Designs Of The Omega Workshops 1913-19.' The Cour-tauld Gallery, London. Exhibition Curator: Dr Alexandra Gerstein. 18 JuNE-2.0 September 2009
The Omega Workshops was founded in 1913 by the artist and critic Roger Fry as arnmeans of bringing modern ideas about art into the objects of everyday life; as he said in 1913, 'It is time that the spirit of fun was introduced into furniture and into fabrics. We have suffered too long from the dull and the stupidly serious'. Operating out of studios and showrooms at 33 Fitzroy Square in London's Bloomsbury, the Omega employed artists to create designs for decorative objects including furniture, rugs, textiles and ceramics, providing them with a way to earn a living while also breaking down the barriers between the fine and applied arts.
