Vale Magdalena ABAKANOWICZ (1930-2017)

In late April, Magdalena Abakanowicz, one of the most influential female artists of the twentieth century, passed away. She was a Polish sculptor and textile artist, whose work made a significant contribution to the development of fibre arts in the 1970s and 80s. Her large-scale woven tapestries and her sculptures of groups of human figures - often headless - are instantly recognisable, and are held in private and public collections in several countries. She taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Pozna, Poland from 1965 to 1990 and became one of Poland's most internationally-acclaimed artists.
