摘要

The history of Kutch embroidery can be traced back to the seventeenth century when the region was considered an important centre for commercial embroideries. This period saw migration from Afghanistan, Greece, Iran, Iraq and Germany - each bringing with them their own embroidery styles and designs, which ultimately evolved and continue to evolve into the distinctive style of the region. Designs and techniques are handed down from mother to daughter and, while these days the embroidery is done for commercial purposes, much is still made to form a trousseau for young women.
