BREEDING DISTRIBUTIONS OF SELECTED CHARADRIIFORMS (CHARADRIIFORMES: CHARADRIIDAE, SCOLOPACIDAE, LARIDAE) IN INTERIOR TEXAS

Knowledge of the breeding distributions of Snowy Plovers (Charadrius alexandrinus), Spotted Sandpipers (Actitis macularia), and Interior Least Terns (Sterna antillarum athalassos) in Texas is limited to outdated publications and a lack of recent field surveys. Seventeen lakes or reservoirs in thirteen counties in west-central and east-central Texas were surveyed during the summer months of 1998-2001 for the three bird species. The survey together with other previously unpublished records reveal significant expansion of the breeding distribution of Interior Least Terns and Snowy Plovers in Texas including twenty-one and eight new county records, respectively, along with three new county records for Spotted Sandpipers.
