In a time when being first to market is critical, people start talking. So is the tale of beefing up backbones to OC-48 (2.4 Gb/s) and the terabit routers to be deployed into them. Ironically, both Qwest Communications and Frontier GlobalCenter, the data and Internet arm of Frontier Communications, announced separately last week that each would be the first to complete OC-48 Internet protocol backbones across the U.S. Concurrently, vendors are staking claims of providing terabit routing equipment to facilitate the increased capacity.
