The IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) is an essential element in the 3G architecture, by virtue of which this network becomes capable of providing ubiquitous cellular access to all services that the internet provides. So, the IMS vision is to enable the subscribers access their favourite web pages, read their e-mail, watch a movie or take part in a videoconference. This article details the various entities that form the IMS, the various interfaces between these entities and various protocols.
