IPTV-an alternative to cable tv and dth

摘要

IPTV is a new emerging value added service in the wireline sector of the telecom operators in India. This testifies the emergence of a new dimension in the convergence, viz., broadcasting in addition to the existing voice, data and enriched data (MMS). Special features of IPTV, its architecture, operational aspects and the functional components are discussed in detail with block schematics wherever possible. IPTV Protocols and working model are elucidated. The regulatory and implementation issues which are required to be addressed by expert group are also highlighted. IPTV service enables the operators to explore ways to offer multiply service in a single platform as well to improve upon their ARPU on landline by suitable pricing.
