At least three approaches to a petition to force wireless carriers to allow consumers to use any handset or device of their choice have emerged in comments submitted to the FCC. Consumer and media access groups have urged the FCC to grant the petition, which would allow subscribers to use third-party services and applications not always supported by the phones the carriers currently offer.
