Government, Industry Blast LightSquared-GPS Interference

A Transportation Department official Feb. 8 defended the conclusion of federal agencies that LightSquared, Inc.'s L-band network can't operate without causing harmful interference to critical government Global Positioning System (GPS) operations, especially those for aviation, while representatives of the aviation and GPS industries blasted the company and the FCC and asked that LightSquard's conditional waiver be rescinded or that the company withdraw its plan. For their part, LightSquared and Harbinger Capital Partners LLC, which controls LightSquared, lashed out at a House subcommittee for denying LightSquared's request to testify at a hearing.
